After School Pick Up Safety

Hometime

  • All class teachers will supervise children out of the building and off the premises
  • Teachers will ensure that children only go home with recognised parents or designated carers.
  • Parents need to contact school if arrangements for picking up their children change.
  • We are mindful of the safety of our children at all times.
  • If for any unavoidable reason you are going to be late please ring to let staff know
  • Collecting your children on time is very important to avoid upset to children at the end of the day.

Collection by older siblings

At Vale View our preference is to have Lower KS2, KS1 and Early Years children picked up by an adult. Therefore parents/carers must understand and be prepared to take responsibility for anything that should go wrong in their absence. They are also responsible for the care and safety of their eldest child, even whilst that child is acting in a caring role for younger siblings. (Children and Young Persons Act, 1933). It is the parent/carer’s responsibility to ensure that a child is dropped off and collected by a responsible person if it is not safe for a child to walk home unsupervised. There is no minimum age set in law when a young person is allowed to remain in charge of another child, however, it is an offence to leave a child alone if it places them at risk. This can include in the care of an older sibling if the level of supervision is ‘likely to cause unnecessary suffering or injury to health’
